I watched a documentary on Netflix about Cody Johnson who grew up in rural Texas and wanted to be a rodeo star more than anything in the world. He traveled from one dusty arena to another riding bulls at a very young age. Cody was good but not quite good enough to win the rodeo buckle for which he longed. It was a heart breaking decision to give up on his dream of being a rodeo star but Cody began to pursue music. The documentary follows Cody through years with more and more fans following his music. Cody was challenged by a friend to write a song to say farewell to his beloved rodeo. The song is about the things we let go and the new things that come in their place.
Cody appeared on the CMT video awards a few days ago and won an award for his hit song "Til you Can't" The song describes the things we take for granted until they are no longer available to us such as taking time to go fishing with a friend and chasing your dreams because your dreams won't chase you back. Check it out!
