Several years ago I heard a sermon titled "It's Friday but Sunday is Coming". The sermon referred to Good Friday when the crucifixion of Jesus Christ took place. The skies turned dark, the people were afraid and the temple veil was torn from top to bottom meaning no man could have torn the veil.
There was no hope for Christians as their leader who was expected to be an earthly king and right the wrongs of life died a horrible death and was laid to rest in an empty tomb. The soldiers were instructed to roll a heavy stone in front of the tomb to seal it so no one could steal the body.
However, on Sunday, what we now call Easter, the stone was rolled away and the tomb was empty because our Savior arose conquering death and inviting us to have eternal life through him.
Yes, it is a Friday world in which we live experiencing tragedies but Sunday is coming with the end of our earthly lives into an eternal life with Jesus.
As we celebrate Holy Week this week, may we not allow the temporary things of this earth to define us but instead embrace the hope that is ours through Jesus.
