The Fellowship of the Ring character - Frodo

In J.R.R. Tolkien's The Fellowship of the Ring, the character of Frodo captures the longing of wanting something to go away. This unassuming hobbit has been tasked with carrying the malevolent Ring of Power all the way to Mount Doom to destroy its hold on Middle Earth.  Obviously, this is a dangerous, arduous task  In speaking with the wise wizard Gandalf Frodo expresses his very human (or hobbit) yearning not to live in this part of history and be the one tasked with such a daunting quest:

"I wish it need not have happened in my time," said Frodo.

"So do I," said Gandalf, "and so do all who live to see such times.  But that is not for them to decide.  All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us"

Soon after this, Gandalf reassures Frodo that he doesn't have to journey to Mount Doom along.  His dear friend and servant, Samwise Gamgee, will go with him, and Gandalf will also help as he is able.  When we face pain and struggles, relying on those we trust and love can lessen the burdens.
